Good loot

A list of precious things.

  1. Salvo 8 backpack from Gregory. Small size (my 14'' laptop *just* fits in this one) but with proper hip-support.
  2. DOMYOS Self-Powered Smart Cross Trainer 520. Has survived for a couple of years now, which wasn't the case for the last few things I'd bought.
  3. SHOKZ OpenMove Wireless Headphones. Work really well and much prefer the form factor and bone conductance approach to other types. (I.e., rests on ears, connected round the back. In-ear buds fall out and are fundamentally icky; over-ear feels horrible, especially with glasses).
  4. Height Adjustable Standing Desk Converter. Very cheap way to have a stand-sit desk, and has been surprisingly robust.
  5. Loop Quiet - Ear Plugs. Vastly better at blocking sound than foam ones as long as they're at the right angle.
  6. WoodyKnows Super-Support Nasal Dilators. Actual nose-breathing at night for the bad-nose club.
  7. EcoAir DD1 Dehumidifier with ThermoPro TP50 Digital Thermo-Hygrometer. Proper dehumdifer, completely solved my place's mold problem.
  8. Portable Mini Air Conditioner. Find this works much better than fans.
  9. Books:
    1. An Event, Perhaps: A Biography of Jacques Derrida. Understand the context and therefore the point of postmodernism and Derrida.
    2. Natural Language Processing in Action: Understanding, analyzing, and generating text with Python. Found this a great hands-on introduction.
    3. Unity in Action. First part of it was just what I needed to get into Unity.
    4. The Use and Abuse of the English Language. Reflection on good language use.
    5. Make Your Own Neural Network. Really nice way to get the idea of basic neural networks and learn a little programming (used this when teaching biological psychology).
    6. The Vlad Taltos series. Fantasy series that gets much more creative about things than usual. The whole series takes a bit of finding but worth it.
    7. Ervaring niet vereist. Found this an impactful and sad book, given the author's subsequent death and the moral injury it presents, about the professional state of institutions for the criminally insane in the Netherlands. Only available in Dutch as far as I know.
